Scholastic at ARROW

Yesterday Catherine Dunning and Bill Tally of Scholastic came to test out some of the new products which they have in development with 8-12 year olds here at ARROW. The purpose of the testing was to get the kids' reactions and opinions to a series of puzzles which Scholastic will be making public. The kids found that some of the puzzles were easy, and some were hard, but that overall putting your brain to the test is a fun experience!

Hot Fun in the Summertime

A big congratulations to all the CRC's who participated in the GLobal Partners project! It was great seeing all of your future cities and meeting all those wonderful kids! Really, there was so much creativity it was inspiring. Anyhow, now that that chapter is behind us It's time for us at ARROW to move on to our summer itinerary. One exciting development is a new partnership with Scholastic and their educational software department. In the next couple of weeks representatives from their company will be coming out to our center to test out some "puzzle cards" software for their informal learning software development. Also, we've got some of our kids videos on youtube. Just click on Search Blog...

Operation Blog: in full swing

Wlecome back to the ARROW blog everyone. Many thanks and appreciation goes to Serge Moreau for initiating this blog before I joined the CRC and when the idea of blogging was but a twinkle in our collective eye. My name is Dan Lawren and I am the CRC Coordinator here at ARROW. I started at the beginning of 2007 and am glad to report that good things are indeed happening. We are hard at work in the editing and graphics phase of our video newsletter: stay tuned for the final distibution of this one, it promises to be a gem. Our small but dedicated Global Partners team just started in the construction phase of their future city and are excited to get more materials for next week's building session. Or adult class on Saturdays continues to grow as word spreads through the Astoria community. Some of the class members have gone further and are regular attendees during Adult computer time in the morning and early afternoon, often using the internet or diligently practicing their typing skills. We are alo excited about our one-minute video for UNICEF's one-minute video contest which has made the top ten finalists and is the only entry from the United States. To vote for our video you can go to www.unicef.org, click on the header "Voices for Youth" and then vote in the "Make a difference" contest. (Ours is called "Healthy vs. Junkie"). Voting ends May 14th so we appreciate you all voting and telling everyone you know to vote!
